Esta instituci\u00f3n pertenece a la Orden Mercedaria de Chile y sus or\u00edgenes se remontan a fines del siglo XIX, cuando algunos frailes comenzaron a reunir diversos objetos de orden hist\u00f3rico, art\u00edstico y etnogr\u00e1fico. Con el tiempo, la colecci\u00f3n se fue depurando hacia la dimensi\u00f3n art\u00edstica. Es por eso que el sello del museo se centra en las expresiones coloniales, principalmente de la Escuela Quite\u00f1a.<\/p><p>El edificio en donde se emplaza actualmente el museo fue el convento mercedario, el cual comenz\u00f3 a construirse en 1548, por el Padre Antonio Correa. El convento siempre se pens\u00f3 como una unidad con respecto a la Bas\u00edlica mercedaria que se encuentra a su lado. Ambas construcciones son Monumento Hist\u00f3rico.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div data-particle_enable=\"false\"
